Choosing One Word for 2026 Part I
Share
As the new year approaches, many people make resolutions, lists of goals they hope to achieve. Yet too often, those resolutions fade, leaving us discouraged. Several years ago, I discovered a different practice inspired by Jon Gordon’s One Word philosophy: instead of resolutions, I choose a single word to guide my year.
Why One Word Works
Clarity: One-word cuts through the noise and keeps your focus simple.
Consistency: A word stays with you daily, unlike resolutions that often fade.
Transformation: It’s not about doing more, it’s about becoming more.
Grace: One word invites growth without the pressure of perfection.
Spiritual Alignment: For me, it’s a way to listen to God’s leading and anchor my heart in His promises.
“One word doesn’t demand perfection. It invites progress, reflection, and transformation.”
My Journey with One Word
This practice has been life changing. Over the years, my words have included Believe, Kindness, Compassion, Intentional, and Frugal. Each one shaped my perspective in unique ways.
I even placed reminders of my word on my computer screen so I would see it daily. That simple act kept me grounded and helped me live out my word in practical, everyday moments. Unlike resolutions that often feel like burdens, my word became a gentle nudge, a steady companion guiding me toward growth.
